Logan is a 16-year-old student at Boone Grove High School who just completed his sophomore year. He is the son of a teacher and restoration expert as well as a big brother. On Saturday, May 30, he was riding his bicycle in Hobart, Indiana to fish at Lake George. He was struck by a car and thrown from his bicycle sustaining life-threatening injuries. After being briefly treated at the scene, he was transported by Medivac to University of Chicago Medical Center.
Upon arrival at UCMC, Logan was treated by the intensive care unit and it was determined he suffered from a fractured skull and pelvis as well as bruised lungs and kidneys. He was temporarily placed into a medically-induced coma. He is still in critical condition and has been transferred to the neurological unit to continue the care he needs. Currently, he has been treated with a paralytic to temporarily paralyze him in order for his body and brain to get the rest it needs. His parents have been continually by his side. The medical staff has been outstanding and the family is thankful to have such an amazing team caring for his needs.
It is very early at this point, and we do not know how long Logan will stay at the University of Chicago Medical Center. We do know the medical bills will be extremely high due to the nature of his injuries and the extent of his care. We estimate the care for Logan's stay at UCMC as well as the care as he transitions home and to full recovery could be up to $3,000,000. Donations will be used to pay medical premiums, therapy, and other needs for Logan as he recovers from this accident.
