Bullying. Gun shootings in schools. Suicide. Food Scarcity. These issues and more face today's youth.
Fourteen extraordinary and diverse teens have come together from across Southern California to write an original film focused on social issues based on their personal experiences including bullying, gun control, food scarcity, peer pressure, depression, suicide, LGBT identity, girls in STEM, drugs, diversity in media and cultural integration.
Material was developed over an intense two-month development period using improvisation, group discussion and journal entries from these teens' lives. The dialogue is all authentically theirs based on powerful stories and interactions. All of the stories intertwine as secrets are divulged, layers are discovered and connections are revealed.
There is some early interest in the project which has requested us to show a promo introducing the cast, issues being presented and style of the content.
Immediate Needs
WE ARE IN NEED of $8,300 for the promo production budget. A two-minute teaser of the content, style and platform is being shot as a high-concept promo with the entire cast on April 28, 2018.
Worldplay, Inc./Young Players Ensemble
Worldplay, Inc. has produced/distributed two award-winning feature films, 30 episodes of an educational series, music videos and live theatrical events. It founded The Young Players Ensemble as its youth division that has created award-winning content with young people around the world (United States, Russia, China, India, Israel, Northern Ireland and Nigeria.) The program launched the careers of Liz Feldman (Emmy-award winning writer for “Ellen” and the creator/writer of “One Big Happy”); Steven Parker (JUNO, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE) and Sara Paxton (AQUAMARINE, THIS IS US) as well as hundreds of other actor/writers.
The project is directed by Hilari Scarl (SEE WHAT I'M SAYING) produced by Inbal Rotem-Sagiv (I CLOWN YOU) with cinematography by Tommy Maddox Upshaw (STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON 2nd unit DP) and scored by Kubilay Uner (GONE ARE THE DAYS.)
This project gives us hope. The power of the cast’s talent and authenticity of their experiences come through in their own words. In this challenging time of mass shootings in schools, bullying leading to suicide and drug overdoses by our youth, this call for help is being answered by this inspiration group of teens to show others that they aren’t alone in their struggles, solutions exist and empowerment is possible.
