Ted's Unexpected Vet Bills Need Your Help
Donation protected
Hi, this is Ted, and I am Ted's mom. Ted is a Bernese Mountain Dog. Two weeks ago, we went to the vet to get some vaccination boosters, and while we were there I asked the vet to look at one area of Ted's gums that was swollen, he had had a cleaning the previous December. I also mentioned to the vet that he had been coughing at night for the previous 3 nights. The vet asked if she could x-ray his chest, and that's when she found several small masses in his right lung. She immediately referred us to Dogwood Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Marietta, GA.
At Dogwood, they biopsyed his lung masses and his swollen gum tissue, both of which were inconclusive. The decision was made to remove the masses and the excess gum tissue. That operation occurred this past Wednesday July 9th. The photo is of Ted this past Thursday, the 10th. We were hoping to bring Ted home today on the 11th, but this morning he had a cardiac arrhythmia that at this moment the vets believe was related to pain from his chest surgery, so they want to keep a bit longer to monitor his progress. I'm pleased to say at this moment Ted is resting comfortablly, but has to remain hospitalized longer to ensure he will be able to transition back to home life.
We do have pet insurance, but we have already busted through the $11,000 limit per medical incident ceiling in just three days, and it's not the end of our journey. We still don't have the biopsy results yet from his lung tissue, but I am hopefully optimistic that what ever it was in his lungs they got all of it. His bloodwork is excellent and CT scans are clear of anything else in his body. The surgeon was pretty confident that the swollen gums have nothing to do with what was going on in his lungs and is a case Gingivial Hyperplasia which can be managed.
Ted is my baby boy. He's my heart dog and I know he's confused right now, because he wasn't feeling bad at all when we took him in. He just had a slight cough that wasn't of the norm. I also know he feels like we abandoned him, and that's killing me. I can't wait to get him home so he can rest in his bed. I'm grateful for the insurance we do have, but it's just not enough to cover everything that has happened in just the last three days and what is yet to come with follow up care.
Any contrabution to Ted's medical expenses will be much appreciated, and I will be forever grateful for any help we receive. Thank you so very much.
