Ted's Home and Lawn on Poseyville Road is a lawn and garden equipment sales and service center. Ted and his wife, Marge Eastman, have owned the business for 36 years. "We're very thankful for our customer base, the loyalty factor, and the personal contact we've developed with so many people as lifelong residents of Midland County and the Bullock Creek area." Still living on the farm where he was born in the Bullock Creek area, he and Marge have been married for 61 years!!! They have two children, who both work at the store, and one granddaughter.
He got the call early Wednesday May 20th, that the Poseyville dike was going to give. When he got to the store, about 20 firefighters from the Midland and Homer township departments were already on scene clearing new inventory from the sales floor outside onto higher ground. He said he can't thank them enough. He doesn't know if his insurance will cover any of his losses. (update-we now know that insurance will not cover any losses).
Eastman remembers first walking into the store after the water receded, which took three days. "I wasn't sure if this was the turning point for me to retire or to rebuild, but both of the children are here (a son and daughter) and my main concern is for them," he said.
"We're still in business," he said. "We lost thousands of dollars in parts and it took out my computer system, my phone system, my air conditioning and heating and somehow tore the water heater out," said Eastman, who estimated he had about an hour to get as much salvaged as possible.
Thank you for all the help getting as much inventory out of the showroom before the flooding, to everyone who has stopped to help with cleanup efforts, and for the many messages of support!! Your help during these unprecedented times is greatly appreciated. Anything you can contribute to help build us back up is also a blessing, even if you're only able to share the link, it will still help to spread the word!!
