This is Cris, Ted's big sister! :) My mom and I are setting up a gofund me page. I thought it would be best to share the WHY in the words of our mom --
Less than a month before my son’s first wedding anniversary, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had to have the offending part removed. The tumor had 7 different kinds of cancers in it and at least one of them was described as a “lymphatic invasion” type, meaning the chances of it recurring within 5 years where it would attack his lymph’s was 50%. Opting to go through a round of chemo (which is many days of treatments with all the cumulative, awful side-effects) drops his chances of recurrence to 5%.
Meanwhile, they were in the process of trying to buy a house. They’ve been renting from a company that only allows leases up to 5 years, so they have to move by October. Ted works part-time 7-days a week at a job with no sick pay, no paid vacations, no benefits of any kind. So when he misses work, like for these treatments (and he can’t work on the days he has treatments for obvious reasons), they have to do with even less.
And on top of all those stressors, my daughter-in-law’s car (the more reliable of the two and the one they’re using to get back and forth to treatments) broke down on their way home from chemo. The estimated cost is $1200 to repair it. I wish I could help them, but I don’t have that kind of reserve. However, someone suggested crowd funding to help them out, so with Cris’ help, that’s what we’re doing.
I feel so helpless in the face of all these things, so I appreciate anything you can do to ease their financial burden. Every little bit, even $5, will be beneficial and put to good use. I want to thank you in advance for partnering with me and my family in the face of a pretty serious season of our lives. I believe that God is with us through the trials and we’ll come out the other side stronger than ever. I love you all!
