Hello, our names are Haley, Kayla Jo, Maven, and Gabe, and we have made this gofundme for our Dad. Our Dad is the most kind-hearted, generous, fun, caring person we've ever known, and that's our unbiased opinion. Ask anyone who knows him. Our Dad has faced many challenges in life and has bravely and successfully maneuvered each one, however, he's got another challenge yet to overcome. After a spell of not feeling well and struggling with unknown health issues, he went to the emergency room. He was diagnosed with a rare disease called Wilson's disease, which is an inherited disorder that causes too much copper to accumulate in the organs. About 5% of people with Wilson's disease have acute liver failure when they receive their diagnosis, and our Dad falls into this category. The doctors say that Wilson's disease has caused cirrhosis which is causing further health issues and that he is in need of a liver transplant. He was sent to the University of Kentucky for further testing and assessments. After a few days, they decided to run some preliminary health screenings to ensure he can withstand an organ transplant. The plan is, if all goes accordingly, to go forward with receiving a new liver. As you can imagine, the financial aspects of this have been increasingly frustrating. After some struggle, we anticipate his insurance will cover the cost of the actual transplant, but he will be required to stay in a hotel for about a month in Kentucky near the hospital with a live-in caregiver to assist 24 hours and be on medication for the rest of his life. We're asking for help covering the costs of the hotel, a caregiver, medications, and medical expenses, as well as other unforeseen costs. Any little bit counts, and is so greatly appreciated.
