Teddy’s Team is an initiative of Dreamer’s Hen Rescue.
During our time exclusively operating Dreamer’s, we would come across feral cat colonies in abattoirs. We would take the kittens, vet work and rehome them and rehabilitate the adults who would also be rehomed after their vet work.
About a year ago someone gave us a kitten named Teddy with a congenital spinal deformity. He was in absolutely shocking condition when he arrived but we were determined to give him a long life.
He had a billion hurdles to climb, including severe internal parasites, urine burning, maggots, mobility and slow gut which lead to problems in his digestive system. Many dollars and many specialist appointments later, Teddy died during a routine procedure to clear out his bowels.
His lung collapsed and the vets were unable to re inflate it because of a hole in his plural lining. It was completely devastating after pouring our hearts and souls into him and we decided to start rescuing cats and kittens in his name. He couldn’t live, but because of him others can.
Since starting Teddy’s Team in March 2018, we have been able to rescue 124 cats and kittens on death row at rural pounds. Close to 80 are still in care. We take particular interest in special needs, so we have 5 feral mother cats in the process of being rehabilitated, an incontinent mother cat who lost all her kittens, a cat who is deaf & brain damaged & FIV+, and a tiny kitten with Cerebellar Hypoplasia.
We presently owe around $8000 to two vets, Heathmont Animal Hospital & Bird Vet Melbourne (who despite its name, we also use to treat our feline friends too). We are trying to raise money to pay these bills to allow us to rescue more cats and kittens.
