Obituary and Memorial Details:
Ted Bonnet, a beloved member of the community, passed away on Tuesday 3/19/2024 at the age of 71 after battling prostate cancer that turned into bone cancer. Ted was a 20-year member of Texas Baptist Church, where he regularly attended several times a week, would help-out and volunteer whenever he could, and loved his Preacher and other members dearly. He loved going “Soul-Winning” by telling others about accepting Jesus Christ into their hearts and about his church. He was an avid reader of his Bible and would constantly encourage others around him to get in touch with God. In fact, he would want me to say that despite is extruciating pain and suffering during his departure from this body and life, he would want everyone to know that there is eternal peace, bliss, and life through a personal saving-grace relationship with your creator God and Jesus Christ.
Ted’s primary career was first as a private pilot. He loved flying, and always spoke of how the cloud and sky formations were like Heaven. He flew for a law firm all over Texas for 17 years, and then transitioned into a pilot that served Air Medical: piloting patients in critical condition all over the USA, Canada, and Mexico, as well as emergency organ donation transfers by air.
Ted’s secondary career birthed from his love of shooting guns. Once he learned about competitive shooting, it became a huge part of his life, and ended up earning him world-wide top recognition in his field: winning 4 World Titles and 1 National Title in fast handgun-shooting competitions. He founded the American Action Shooting Association membership club as well as a shooting range, which will stay thriving still as it attracted many fans. Ted furthered his education by becoming a certified handgun instructor up to Level 3 Security Trainings. He often trained police officers and security guards, as well as countless civilians who wanted to learn how to safely handle a gun for self-defense.
Ted was a devoted father and a good provider to his 3 children: Mandy, Laura “Blue”, and Taran. Blue sadly passed away in 2019 at the age of 30, which left a permanent hole in his heart, but he stayed close and active in the lives of Mandy and Taran, and would help however he could. Ted leaves behind his daughter Mandy, son Taran, his brothers Bobby & Brian, nephews Brandon & Caleb, and many beloved extended family, friends, and clients. He was preceded in death by his parents Ben & Gail Bonnet, brothers Stephen & Gary Bonnet, as well as daughter Blue, Nephew Alan, and orange kitty Socks, who hopefully will all be greeting him happily at the pearly gates of Heaven.
Ted also loved to travel: “Go on Huckleberries” as he would call his adventures, he loved petting his cats, cooking, Dr. Pepper, Rootbeer floats, chocolate covered cherries, & Rocky Road ice cream.
His memorial will be Saturday April 13TH, 2024 at 1pm Central Time at Texas Baptist Church: 458 Lanark Dr, San Antonio, TX 78218. Food will be served after service. Please bring your own little memorial container in a ziplock bag with your name and number on it if you wish to have some of his ashes that I will prepare and get to you somehow at a later time when I can.
I’m grateful for my Dad and all that he did for us. He was a great provider and motivator.
With many thanks and gratitude to anyone who donates:
Love, Mandy
