Techung and Tibetan Ensemble NA Tour 2022

My name is Techung and I am a Tibetan traditional musician.

I will be touring with an ensemble of Tibetan musicians (seven master musicians) who will perform Tibetan classical music known as Nangma and Toeshey. We begin with a concert in NYC hosted by the World Music Institute on June 4th, 2022.   After the New York concert,  we will go to Washington, DC, with the invitation from the Capital Area Tibetan Association. This fundraising is for the Washington DC, concert tour.

This tour comes out of my project - Tibetan Music Preservation Project 2018-2020 - during which I professionally recorded forty eight music pieces. The concerts are the final outcome of the project where my ensemble of Tibetan traditional artists will perform for the first time, a repertoire Nangma and Toeshey music. 

The goal of the tour is educational and about the preservation of Tibetan classical music.  I feel live concerts are a great way to engage the audience and for them to appreciate and feel this ancient music from Lhasa. We hope this will be a treat to our small but thriving communities, especially for the older members, and for the younger generations who have no idea that we have this type of classical music from Lhasa. This unique style of music that brings joy and connection to past, will also add to the musical enrichment of audiences who love world music.  

This fundraising campaign will help cover the logistic expenses for our Washington DC concert tour. I hope you will consider supporting this project. 

Repertoire Details: 
The repertoire will consist of Nangma and Toeshay songs and dances. The music of Nangma and Toeshey is about love, kindness, longing and spiritual. The ensemble of artists include dancers who will dress up in traditional costumes and will perform the step dances characteristic of these music genres.
