Tashi Delek!
Greetings!
Thank you for taking the time to visit our Africa Tour Crowdfunding Campaign.
I, Techung, Tibetan traditional artist, and my partner Sisa Salgado, Ecuadorian anthropologist and Indian classical dancer, are crowdfunding for our trip to Africa spring of 2022. We are to participate and travel to the renown International music festival Des Nomades in Morocco and to be part of a cultural exchange with traditional Griots story tellers/artists as well as workshops and meetings with children in Bamako, Mali. If the fundraising is successful, we will also travel to South Africa.
Tour Dates: March 1st - April 24th 2022
Countries: Morocco, Mali and South Africa
Duration of the tour: 55 days
We received an official invitation from the non-profit association "Nomades du Monde" to perform at this renowned music festival from March 19th to the 21st 2022. This event is free for the public. The official letter of invitation is attached in this proposal.
This is going to be the first time a Tibetan traditional artist and an Ecuadorian Indian classical dancer share their art in this unique festival in the desert.
While we have the invitation from this festival, we are pursuing other venues in these regions to share our music and art.
Currently we have a contact, a local artist from Mali who works with the world-renowned music group Tinariwen. He is organizing a cultural exchange with traditional artist from in Bamako. Mali is a country that has different ethnic groups and some of them have been under to similar struggles to preserve their culture, language and art.
As a cultural ambassador of Tibet, I am proud to share Tibetan culture and stories through traditional Tibetan music and dance. Similarly, traditional musical instruments that we use in Tibet have some similarities with the traditional instruments such as Kora and Bakafon and of course story telling. These are some fascinating reasons to not miss this opportunity and we hope that you will join us in this journey.
The music festival in Morocco runs in a shoestring budget and they are only able to cover portion of our travel and accommodation expenses. The situation in Mali is similar, the traditional musicians will organize community events in schools and cultural centers but the activities will be organized by volunteers and free for the public.
We love to participate in this once in lifetime event and we encourage you to help us make this journey possible.
As a Thank you for your contribution, we will send you a short updates and photos from the tour and especially from the concerts and culture exchanges.
Thank you
