Rebuild Tea on the Tiber in EC

Donation protected
My name is Sarah Blazucki. My mom, Linda Jones, owns Tea on the Tiber in Ellicott City, Maryland.

On July 30, a catastrophic 1,000-year flash flood tore through Ellicott City, a wall of water crashing down Main Street. Two people died, many had to be rescued. The water washed away cars, sidewalks, trees, foundations, roads, hillsides. It's possibly the worst flood in the town's history.

Tea on the Tiber is one of the many businesses that was severely damaged. Though the structure is sound, the interior is wrecked. Water came in the front door -- the watermark is nearly 6 feet high on the walls -- picked everything on the first floor up, tossed it around and pushed out through the side door, leaving destruction in its wake.

Though she doesn't know how long it will be before the town and the tearoom reopens, my mom wants to rebuild as soon as possible. She'll need to rebuild from the studs out, the basement and the first floor. She'll need all new appliances -- refrigerators, freezers, ovens, washer & dryer, dishwasher and, of course, a commercial hot water dispenser. She'll need new furnishings and fixtures. She'll need to redecorate. There will be a lot of cleaning to do.

Tea on the Tiber is my mom's passion. She dreamed of owning a business like this for so long before she bought it. I'm so proud of her for holding on to her dream, making it happen and embracing it every day. She spent so many years taking care of me and my siblings, Rachel and Seth, that she didn't have the chance to fully pursue what she wanted to do. The tearoom was the first time she could really do that and it means the world to her.

Every year for Mother's Day, our gift to Mom is to work at the tearoom with her (Seth, me, Mom, Rachel).

Always outgoing and friendly, she loves welcoming guests into the tearoom and entertaining them, making sure they enjoy events small and large, from mother-daugther teas to bridal and baby showers. She's worked so hard to build this since she bought it in 2012, and she's loved it every day since. She has 10-15 dedicated employees who get there early and serve each customer high tea with skill and efficiency.

I want to help my mom rebuild Tea on the Tiber -- "build back better" and smarter. If she can improve her business in the process, all the better.

Will you help fund Tea on the Tiber's rebuilding?

Thank you. And when Tea on the Tiber reopens, come visit my mom and her staff.
