It is with heavy hearts and persistent faith that we have decided it is time to let people know of the long road ahead for our family. At the end of June Trace’s wonderful pediatrician knew to look further when he was brought in due to a puffy eye. We had already been told by urgent care a week prior it was allergy related....but she knew and sent us immediately for a CT where they found a mass. We were at St Jude in Johnson City by the next morning and our journey began. We found ourselves in Memphis at St Jude at the beginning of July surrounded by a team of doctors to try and learn what this was. At first we were told this was a vascular malformation (not cancerous) and referred out for a treatment called sclerotherapy. Friday July 20th they attempted the required treatment and discovered it was not a vascular malformation yet a solid mass and then biopsied at Le Bonheur Childrens. Back to St Jude We came. Two short days ago we received the news it in fact is malignant. Our hearts SANK… Our days since and to come are filled with bone marrow biopsies and aspirations, ultrasounds, PET scans, MRIs and tests to determine what exactly it is, where and if it is anywhere else. Monday will bring answers as information is gathered, Tuesday will bring our sweet baby a central line and Wednesday will bring treatment in the form of chemo and or radiation. It is a daunting reality, life has completely changed in a matter of minutes. Due to treatments and diagnosis the family have been away from home/work for over three weeks currently with no end in sight. We are asking for your support to help this family fight and KICK CANCER’S BUTT!
He is brave, he is strong, he is filled with laughter and humor, he is kind, he is loving, he is a child with cancer and he is OUR hero. He is Trace-Rex and he will make it through this but certainly not alone.
