All who know Tom Hult know that he is a wonderful family man and a great friend to many. Tom has served selflessly as a teacher, coach, and counselor in the Kansas City area, and never meets a stranger. His outgoing personality and can-do attitude make him well-liked among all.
Tom suffered a massive MCA stroke on September 17, 2016 at the young age of 49. By the grace of God, through the love of his family, at the hands of the gifted surgeons, and with the prayers from all who know Tom, he survived. However, Tom lost function of the left side of his body and has much to relearn to live a fulfilling life. He has a journey ahead of him that will be long and hard for him, his wife Karen, and for their children, Mikaela and Dugan.
We have set up this account to help the family out with the hefty medical expenses that come from a three-week ICU stay, two months in a rehab hospital, daily outpatient rehab, some in-home health care, and the cost of COBRA insurance. It will also help make accommodations to their house to make it more accessible for Tom. The money raised so far has gone towards the installation of a ramp outside the house and a chair lift in the home so Tom can get up and down the stairs more smoothly.
I asked Karen for permission to establish this GoFundMe account to help Tom in his recovery, as I know she would never ask for help herself. The Hult family, however, would be the first to help others in need.
