Electric wheelchair for Tom
Donation protected
Mawsley CP School are raising money to purchase an electric wheelchair for Tom.
Tom is a fantastic boy who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, however he has never let this stop him. He has the most fantastic sense of humour and continually brings a smile to those around him with his infectious positive attitude.
However Tom, now aged 10, has reached a stage in his life where his condition is limiting his mobility. He now struggles with any physical task, from walking and moving around to even holding a pencil or typing on a laptop. He is no longer able to play with his friends, without support, as he can not use a standard wheelchair
Tom is working with adults in school on a campaign he has called #TeamTom to raise funds to buy an electric wheelchair. He does not currently qualify for a wheelchair, despite having seriously impaired mobility and when he does, it will be too late for him to enjoy all of the benefits that it will provide him. In order to qualify for a chair Tom must be completely wheelchair bound, something he is trying to avoid for as long as possible as he wants to be normal and like his friends.
Having an electric chair, as Tom tells you in his letter, would allow him to move around school without having to continually be pushed by an adult. It would allow him the chance to join in games on the playground and the opportunity to play with his peers. It would give him a chance to walk his beloved dog Sophie, as he has not been able to do this.
We would like to support Tom in his quest to raise £9000 to purchase him an electric wheelchair to give him the freedom that we all take for granted, to allow this caring, positive little boy the chance to be himself for as long as possible.
