On January 4, 2014 we will embark on a cross country bicycle
trip in order to raise money for our beloved school, "El Instituto Cultural
Reinaldo Macchi," (ICRM). We will be biking along the Southern Tier, a 3,100
mile stretch starting in St. Augustine, Florida and ending in San Diego, California.
We hope to complete the journey in under 50 days.
Team Tobatà is
501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of
disadvantaged youth in TobatÃ. All
donations to the school are 100% tax-deductible. Through the efforts of this
charity, the ICRM has been established. The mission of our school is to educate
the smartest and most economically disadvantaged children in the Tobatà area, a
rural Southern American town devastated by poverty and short horizons.
The school consists
of grades 7-12 and has 83 students in total. Through the financial support of
Team Tobati, each student receives a full academic scholarship to study,
complete health care, school supplies, uniforms, and three meals a day. The
academic rigor of the school is among the toughest in Paraguay, and
the structure of the curriculum is based on the model of a typical American
college-preparatory high school.
offers the best education in Cordillera, Paraguay, and
provides our students with an opportunity to break free from the bonds of
poverty and truly make a name for themselves in this world. Every student at
the ICRM is a dreamer, and the school gives them the proper resources to
accomplish their goals.
has been a part of Team Tobati since March, 2002. He's participated in eight community-service
trips and taught English at the ICRM from 2008 - 2010. He currently serves as
the Director of the school.
Taylor Ross joined
Team Tobatà in September, 2011. In addition to teaching English, he also serves
as a College Adviser for students at the school who want to study at a
university in the United States. (Three ICRM students are currently
studying on full academic scholarships at universities in the U.S. Two are in
their junior year at Mt. Saint Mary's University in Maryland,
and one is in his first year at the University of Pennsylvania).
Through this bike trip,
we hope to raise money not only to continue funding the school, but also to
finance various projects, some of which include replacing run-down desks,
chairs, and whiteboards. Additionally, given the harsh reality that scholarship
opportunities in Paraguay are extremely limited, we want to start a college fund for our students who
look to continue their studies after completing their time at the ICRM.
appreciate your support. We humbly believe that in this world, with the proper
resources, todo es posible"”everything
