February 16th changed our family forever when our beloved 39-year old husband, father, son and friend suffered a massive seven hour heart attack. After having stent placement at a local, smaller hospital, Trouper was transferred to downtown Atlanta, to Piedmont Hospital. That evening, we were told he wouldn't make it, to call family and friends and if we believed in prayer, to pray. We knew he was a fighter and began praying that his fighting spirit would prevail and he would come back to us. After nine days in a coma, he awoke but with the devastating news that the damage was so severe, he is now suffering heart failure. His current ejection fraction (the amount his heart is working) is 12%. He has suffered pneumonia, kidney failure, lung infections and is on a current drip of the "pump medicine" Primacor. He was originally hospitalized for 32-days and subsequently has spent an additional 10-days in patient. We have been told without a transplant our Super Trouper has less than a year to live. So, we are following all the orders, immersing ourselves in everything transplant related, going through the massive amounts of tests and praying each day for guidance and wisdom. We have been told the cost of a transplant is one million dollars and each year, the medications run thirty thousand dollars. While we currently have private insurance, Trouper is unable to work and awaiting approval for social security disability. My income is the only money we have coming in, and currently, his medications average 400 per month, while his insurance is 400 per month, close to half of my take home pay. Our goal is to continue paying for his medicine and insurance, keep the house and necessary family bills paid and to start saving for his eventual anti-rejection medication and expenses that will surround his heart transplant. We don't say IF he gets a heart, we say WHEN he gets a heart! Please help if you can, and if not, just continue to pray for us. And remember when you say a prayer for us, include Trouper's eventual donor and donor family. They will need just as much prayer and love as we do!
