On December 5, 2016 Rylee Nile Rodgers was born at 24 weeks gestation, weighing 2lbs 2oz and was13.5 inches long. His mother Lauren had started to feel cramps the day before and they continued to worsen as the day went on. Lauren called her mother, Jill and her boyfriend Mason and drove herself to Olathe medical center. She was immediately taken to the OR where an emergercy cesarian section was performed to deliver Rylee who was not only 16 weeks early, but was also breech. After delivery, it took the medical staff 3 hours to get baby Rylee stable enough so he could be transported to Overland Park Regionals NICU.
Once at OPR the outstanding team of doctors and nurses began to access Rylees needs. His tiny lungs obviously were not developed enough for him to breath on his own so he was put on a ventalator. He also has a heart murmur that was caused by PDA. Rylee had 2 brain bleeds at birth. One was a stage 1 and one was a stage 4. These remained fairly stable until the Doctors decided the murmur needed to be treated with a medication that unfortunately could increase the fluid in his head. The medication was started and resolved the murmur, but unfortunately did increase the stage 1 bleed to a stage 3 and worsened the stage 4. He would now need to have a resovoir implanted in his head to relieve the pressure on his brain. In preperation for this procedure, it was also discovered that Rylee had developed necrotizing entercolitis, a severe infection and inflamation of the intestines. This had to be treated with antibiotics before they could take him to implant the resovoir. The surgery took place 1/31/16 and they have succesfully been draining fluid daily since it was placed. He also has had multiple xrays, ultrasounds and labs drawn daily. This little guy has undergone so much and continues to fight. As you can imagine, the medical bills are going to be inconcievable. Lauren has been at Rylees bedside daily for nearly 2  months, but is now starting to work short shifts as a server. Mason also spent the first several weeks at the hospital but is back to work at Austins Bar and Grill to provide as best he can for his family. This heavy burden would be a lot for anyone to face, but is even more so for a young couple starting their lives together. Ifyou feel so compelled, please help!! ANY amount will be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to help finaically, please help by saying a prayer for Rylee.
