Everyone who knows Ricardo Sr. Lopez knows what a caring, giving person he is. He lives life to the fullest and has a way of lighting up a room. He loves making people smile through his hospitality. Whether it is cooking for everyone or planning a crazy adventure.

Now he needs us more than ever. He is fighting the biggest fight of his life. On November 29th 2019, Grace, Ricardo, and Rene took Ricardo (Senior) to the hospital for a possible stroke. They had been noticing significant changes in him. The emergency Doctor said he did not have a stroke, however, he did find a 2.5 inch mass in the right side of his brain. He was then transported to Abbott Northwestern Hospital where they did a CT and MRI scan and confirmed that the mass did not spread which it hadn’t, however, with a tumor this large, the only option was surgery. Ricardo had surgery and the doctors were able to remove 80% of the tumor. The tumor is a highly aggressive one (Glioblastoma) and has caused paralysis in the left side of his body.

Ricardo continues to fight and has the upmost positive outlook. The fight is not over. He has begun radiation 5 times a week. I was able to be there for one of his radiation treatments. When the treatment was over he whispered in my Tia Graces ear, “She (the doctor) is not telling you the truth but it is getting smaller,” referring to the cancer. He is doing everything he can, at 110% of course, to kick cancer in its a**. In addition to chemo and radiation, he is doing physical, occupational, and speech therapy to help regain his strength and mobility.

He is tentatively scheduled for discharged on January 1st, 2020. Family and Friends have  been working to get the house as accessible as possible

It is a long road to recovery but with Jesus Christ anything is possible. Please support Ricardo Sr. and his family through this journey. Together we can help ease the financial stress whether it be through meals or donations on this page. On behalf of the Lopez Family, we would like to thank you for all the love and support during this difficult time. Please continue to keep the Lopez family is your thoughts and prayers. #TeamRicardo
