#TeamNate: Support Autism Research
Donation protected
Since 2010, I have worked for a wonderful, inspiring mentor named Allison Patenaude who has changed my life for the better in countless ways. I have had the privilege to know her through two pregnancies and births, and her two children are near and dear to my heart as I’ve watched them grow. Allison and her husband Stephen truly adopted Jordan and I as part of their family, and we are so lucky to have them in our lives.
In December 2014 Allison and Stephen received the crushing news that their first child Nate has Autism and Global Delay Disorder. While their lives had been changed forever, Allison and Stephen rose to the challenge and placed Nate in 28 hours of in-home therapy a week thanks to the New England Center for Children (NECC). The NECC’s ABA approach has already strengthened Nate’s eye contact, response to his name, and pointing skills in just a few months, and their services and research for children with Autism would not be possible without the support of donors like you. The NECC also runs a partner program in Abu Dhabi, and as you all know, I love the Middle East and lament the lack of psychosocial support services available in many areas in the region, and your donation will support their program in the UAE as well.
In November, I will be running the Seattle Marathon as a part of #TeamNate, and will be donating the proceeds of this fundraiser to the NECC. Thirty years ago, only one in 2,000 children had Autism. Today, at least one in 150 children has an autism spectrum disorder. Join #TeamNate in supporting the research of NECC to find the cause of and treatments for this disorder, and cheer me on as I run "26.2 for our Boy in Blue"!
