Welcome to Team Mayra's Fundraising page.
In late 2012 of the holiday season my sister Mayra Ransom had developed a lump on the left side of her breast, that was causing her pain and discomfort.
After numerous checkups. Mamograms, ultrasound and biopsys all revealed a negative result for cancer. Mayra still had a cause for concern and wanted the infected cyst removed. After they removed the cyst a pathology report came back positive for breast cancer.
We were given the devastating news that Mayra was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer.
As hurtful as it was to hear that your loved one has cancer our family and friends came to together in 2013 and supported Mayra every step of the way.
She went for a lumpectomy in January of 2013, and Mayra started her road to recovery. She endured a long, grueling, and difficult 6 months of chemo and 1 month radiation. Finally in September 5th 2013 she was declared cancer free and in remission!
We entered 2014 delighted and extremely happy that 2013 was behind us. 2014 was the year for everything to go back to normal and for the most part it did.
Until, one night she woke up with pain and discomfort again. Mayra went to the doctor, went for the biopsy and again like a reoccurring nightmare her cancer came back this time not only in her breast but the cancer has spread to her sternum. Mayra's new diagnosis is STAGE 4 BREAST CANCER. She now has to endure another long road to recovery this time it's longer, and this time it's more surgery.
Mayra now needs to go through chemo, radiation, a double mastectomy, and a hysterectomy in 2015.
The stupid cancer has come back and devastation is understatement.
Our faith and perseverance as whole has become stronger. WE WILL FIGHT. WE SHALL OVERCOME AND CONQUER. Mayra is a sister, a best-friend to many and a mother of 2 beautiful children. She has a smile that will truly light up a room. She is a burst of energy, funny, kind hearted, and beautiful inside and out. Her positivity and attitude are contagious.
She is hardworking, determined, and bottom-line SHE IS A FIGHTER.
