Team Matsune Rebuild

Donation protected
December 2014 is a month Team Matsune will never forget. In a matter of weeks, we lost our home and 90% of our belongings to a serious mold outbreak. Words can hardly describe how difficult this event has been and continues to be on our family, health, careers and outlook on life. Our insurance is not covering our claim, so we are now forced to replace a home and lifetime of items, some priceless. Just as we were preparing to announce our plans for our presumptive non-profit, The Mulligan Deal, we found ourselves being the ones in need.

Everything had to go that could not be submersed in a bleach solution, dry cleaned, is upholstered,  plush, or showing visible signs of mold. Everything. Electronics, furniture, small kitchen applicances, toys, papers, decorations, food, books, shoes and others were all lost. The most heartbreaking has been the loss of most of our children's items. It is as if a nuclear event happened and while most items look completely fine, most had to be taken away.

To date, Penny, our almost four-year-old, passed her mold and allergy testing, Porter, our eight-month-old, has developed one mold allergy. Jason is allergic to everything but mold, but has heightened sensitivity due to his exposure.

Kim, on the other hand, has been severely affected. After her failed testing and as a result of excessive exposure to the mold and dust mites during the move and item disposal, she had a systemic allergic reaction. Kim was rushed to the emergency room for immediate lifesaving treatment. Luckily, the skilled staff and good grace allowed her to recover, but the reaction forced us to have a new way of life. More doctor and emergency visits, diagnoses and medications have followed in the past few weeks. A CT scan was performed last Friday to assess Kim's lung damage. We are hoping for a minor miracle this week when the results become available.

As if it weren't enough to lose a home, our things, and any level of comfort and financial stability, we now have to go to extreme lengths to be sure Kim doesn't experience another allergic reaction. Steroids, inhalers, and other medications are the new normal. She is half-speed at best, not permitted to exercise or perform strenuous activities. For those of you who know her well, Kim doesn't sit still for long, so this has truly taken its toll. She has trouble talking and eating due to breathing issues. Her spirit has been temporarily dampened to be sure.

As a result, we are forced to build or find a new home that complies with Kim's allergy-prevention requirements while restoring an entire household.

Due to the severity of Kim's allergy, we are only permitted to bring new items into our living space.

If you or any person, family, company, business or foundation you know are able to help us reach our goal, we would be forever grateful. Please pass on our link and let us know how we can pay it forward.
