Less than a year ago, just like hundreds and hundreds of people in this country, Mark Norflis was told that he had Colon Cancer. Being shocked, upset, bewildered and frightened at the possible scenario that news like this can bring. Mark and his wife Keyra realized that they would be in for the fight of their lives. Fighting for his Life! He immediately started treatments. He had surgery to remove part of his colon. Then began Chemotherapy treatments soon after. He completed six months of his scheduled chemo sessions. After the sessions were completed, his wife Keyra gave him a Birthday/End of Chemo Party. Several of his close friends and family came out to celebrate with him. Everyone had a great time and optimism was at its peak!
The following week his Doctor informed Mark that they found spots on his Lymph Nodes and his Liver. As some may or may not know, once the cancer reaches the Lymph Nodes, there is no surgery, chemo treatment or much else to defeat the cancer. He was given an estimation of 1-5 years left in his life. Needless to say that was a shock and a crushing blow to the spirits and morale of him and his family.
Mark and his family set their sights on embarking on a more aggressive battery of Chemo Therapy that would be relied upon to slow down the cancer and prolong his life as much as possible. Unfortunately after a couple months of treaments, they determined that the cancer has spread around his colon and his stomach. It was decided to stop treaments and focus on pain mangement. His life span was drastically lowered to only a matter of months.
Mark is married with four children. The youngest being his beautiful 3 year old daughter Kelsey. Mark's plans to return to work has been all but eliminated. The prolonged treatments, medications, doctor appointments, etc has put a strain on their family's financial structure. Not to mention getting affairs in order and all other preparations for the future. All of these circumstances have been physically, emotionally and financially draining.
Now I did not get permission nor did I ask for permission to set up this campaign. Knowing Mark the way we do, he would not allow it. I know that I am not the only one who wants to do whatever we can to provide as much assistance as possible! As a good friend to him and his family, many people have reached out to me to ask if they could do anything to provide support for Mark. The first response is always Prayer! After that, just keep his spirits up, let him know that you love and care for him.
If you would like to donate a Love Offering, please do so. The goal amount is just a number. Whatever your heart calls for you to give will be appreciated. Lets spend every chance we have to show the ones we care for that we love and cherish them. We are not guaranteed tomorrow. Take nothing for granted. Please keep the Norflis Family in your Prayers!
