Lorelei's Journey

Donation protected
As you may know, this page was made in honour of a good friend of mine mother's Lorelei Egerton. Lorelei is the single mother of 3 and a grandma to 2, she had her first child at 20 and has been a single mom providing for her kids ever since. In 2015, Lorelei took in her 1 year old granddaughter and continues to be her full-time caregiver. At the beginning of 2016, with her youngest child being 12, Lorelei for the first time ever felt she was getting to ready to finally live her life and do all the things she put on hold to raise her children.

Fast forward towards the end of 2016, Lorelei was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She had surgery and went through several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation for about 6-8 months then was given the good news in the March of 2017 that she was cancer free! Things were going better health wise and she was beginning to feel better for a bit, until a little over a year later in July 2018 when she knew something was wrong again. She was in severe pain all of the time and decided to go to a walk-in clinic, who then sent her to the hospital advising her to get more testing. In September 2018, Lorelei got the hard news that she had once again been diagnosed this time with Stage 4 Metastasized Breast Cancer which had spread into her lymph nodes, liver, and bones, leading to Stage 4 Incurable Liver Cancer. With regular blood work and testing, it was discovered that Lorelei’s cancer had unfortunately spread to her spine causing a tumour.

Due to the severeness of the cancer, her grueling therapy schedule, and the toll it takes on her body, working in her office is too risky due to the germs and amount of people in and out. The slightest fever would result in an urgent rush to the emergency room since her body is not strong enough to fight off even the smallest cold. With all of those factors, Lorelei has had to stop working which has been a huge financial burden, being the only and main caregiver to the 2 children and granddaughter that still live at home while now also helping with her eldest daughter and her newborn baby.

UPDATE: Hello Everybody,

Thank you to everyone who has contributed - Unfortunately, we have a less than positive update.

In February 2019, Lorelei completed what she believed to be her latest round of chemotherapy. At that time, the tumors on her liver had shrunk and the tumor on her spine and wall of her chest had shrunk incredibly well too. From there, Lorelei moved to what they call systemic maintenance treatment in hopes of preventing any more tumors from developing and to keep the existing ones from continuing to grow.
Unfortunately, in April 2019 Lorelei started feeling very unwell including symptoms affecting her balance and concentration. The most recent scans have revealed that a tumor has now appeared in Lorelei's brain. She had to begin radiation immediately.

Lorelei has not been able to return to work, is no longer able to drive, and now moves around with the help of a cane. On top of taking care of herself, Lorelei continues to be the primary caregiver for her two children living at home as well as her 5 year old granddaughter. The financial burden of rent, household expenses, out of town hospital trips, uncovered treatment and medications is often too much to bear.

We are hoping to help Lorelei provide for her herself, her dependent family and relieve some stress from what goes over and beyond what she can afford. These expenses include education costs for her kids, expensive medications, and family counselling help.

With all Lorelei is dealing with health wise, it breaks our heart to see her have to stress and struggle with all of these things. Her family and close friends are rallying to help as much as they they possibly can, but this is something we will need a lot more help to achieve. Absolutely anything helps and absolutely everything is appreciated, especially prayers for Lorelei and her family. Thank you very much <3
