Help Kit Book Heal

Kit Book is a red-haired firecracker of a 7-year-old girl whose spirit shines through every challenge she faces. Born with Jacobsen’s Syndrome, Kit has spent her life navigating a rare genetic disorder and enduring a variety of surgeries and procedures. Yet, to know Kit is to know unbridled life amidst the storm. She is equal parts battle scars and infectious joy.

Kit loves her brothers and sister, her friends and family, and she welcomes new people into her life without reservation. She loves like Jesus does—genuine zest without corruption.

Earlier this week, Kit collapsed and lost consciousness from a rupture in her brain. Emergency doctors called for an air lift to Children’s Hospital in Omaha but determined that Kit would not survive long enough to make the 15-minute trip; a heroic action was required and a local doctor said simply, “I have children and I would want someone to try.” A hole was drilled into her skull to drain fluid from her brain, stabilizing her life and providing the necessary time to reach her destination.

Kit will spend the next several weeks and months recovering, beginning with draining fluid from inside her brain and regaining function of her speech, arms, and legs. Love and prayers have filled the darkness with light, and we look forward to hearing the melody of her old lady laugh and reading the literary masterpiece that is Pinkalicious.

Kit’s journey is far from over, and she will need ongoing medical care, therapies, and support to help her heal and thrive. PJ and Laura would give a nickel out of their last dime to a friend in need. They will spend this Christmas, New Years, and the foreseeable future in the hospital.
