No parent ever expects to hear that their child has cancer. It shakes you to your core. It makes you stronger than you ever thought you could be for your child. The last thing any parent with a sick child should have to worry about is how to survive financially. Please help the Poindexter family by donating and/or sharing. By doing so, you're helping more than you know.

From Caitlin, Kimbers mom....

"On March 2nd Kimber woke up in the middle of the night crying complaining of leg pain. This was not the first time this has happened so we gave her Motrin snuggled up with her and went back to bed . Like any other parent we attributed the night leg pain to "growing pains ". That day when she woke up she was still complaining of leg pain and would not put her leg down . She's always been active and at the time was enrolled in gymnastics so we then figured she must have just hurt herself playing . On March 3rd, she still wouldn't put down her leg so we decided to take her to the doctor . She ended up getting some x rays and blood work , the X-rays revealed a dark spot on the right tibia .

That following Monday Kimber got an MRI that showed unusual growths inside the bone and some on the surrounding tissue . The doctors were unclear on what this could be.

On March 20th we traveled to D.C. And Kimber got a bone and soft tissue biopsy . We had to travel to D.C. Because that type of bone biopsy is really dangerous and nobody locally was comfortable doing it in a 4 year old.

Friday March 24th we welcomed our second child into the world,Vada. After a relatively normal delivery, my pulse was too low so I could not be discharged from the hospital until Monday, a few short hours after coming home we received the news that Kimbers bone biopsy results were not great and that she has cancer .

Kimber has so far been diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma. We are getting her port placed today (March 30th) . Getting admitted to the hospital Monday to begin chemo. She will be getting chemo for three months then getting surgery in D.C. To get the cancer removed out of her leg . They are hopeful that she will be able to recover and walk after therapy . After the surgery is complete she will get 6 more months of chemo .

Our family is entirely and solely supported by Mike , as everyone knows he's one of the hardest working people out there . We are hoping that we can let him be able not to have to decide between being there for kimber and having to work . With a newborn and my own health issues that I must attend to at times I really need him to be there too .

On top of all this our lease is up and due to Kimbers upcoming surgery we cannot stay in our two story apartment . We need to relocate to Norfolk closer to CHKD , into a more accommodating one story home.

We're alone here in Virginia with the exception of mikes mom who has been traveling from northern Virginia to help when she can . We're not used to asking for help from other people because we never have had to before . So we're asking our friends for help . We need our village to help raise our beautiful girls ."
