Recently our family came across some bad news. The love of my life and husband, Kevin Juszyk, after having gone in to get a cough checked out, has been diagnosed with lymphoma. It has caused some dreams and life plans to come to a halt.
It started with a simple doctors visit to get a cough checked out. When they did a chest X-ray the doctor came back in explaining he had a large mass in his chest and needed to go right away for a CT-scan. He went to the ER, where the CT scan was completed and the very real likelihood of it being cancer was formed. A couple days later, after the weekend, and we were meeting with the thoracic surgeon. A mediastinoscopy with biopsy was completed a couple days after that. That came with its own scare while he was in recovery, all while COVID has made it so no visitors can be present. I received a call saying he had a bit of a issue in recovery with breathing. Due to a bunch of build up of gunk in his throat, he had respirator arrest and was given narcan and sucked out which provided immediate results. He was fine after being suctioned out, except for all the on board medication being neutralized which in turn let the pain set in right away. It took about 10 days to get results after the biopsy. Non-Hodgkins lymphoma was the diagnosis; specifically Diffused Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL). The staging process is underway with a bone marrow biopsy, blood work, PET scan, heart echo, and port placement are all completed. We find out staging tomorrow and he will begin treatment the following day.
This has brought a great physical, emotional, mental, and financial pain to our family. We are staying strong and positive through this all and his attitude is staying as positive as it can through all this so far. The financial toll has completely taken us by surprise since no one plans on getting cancer and having the medical bills pile up faster then you can think about them.
We are just trying to raise the money to meet our out of pocket max’s since this will go well into the next year and other expenses that are popping up. We decided after having a better realization of what all this can cost to increase our goal to $25,000. If we hit our goal or there is any funds leftover after medical bills have been taken care of, that remaining amount will be donated to lymphoma research.
Anything at all anyone is able to help with will mean the world to us and help reduce the stress I know he is thinking about with all of this. The less things to stress about during treatment the better!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and stay tuned for updates as we get them!!
