Team Honeyands: help fund the road to recovery

Imagine going to your workplace and life changing dramatically all in the space of a few hours.  All the little things you took for granted suddenly gone.  This happened to my friend Danielle on the 13th November.  She had secured a shift through her agency to do some Radiography work at hospital then hours later instead of being an NHS worker she was the one lying on the bed and receiving life-saving medical help.  As a result of using the thrombectomy service and fast medical attention she was saved.

In the first 24 hours she was not able to move or communicate. Joe, her husband, was dealing with the fact that his wife may never be the same again.  So many thoughts running through his head  with the most paramount one being how would he tell his 5 year old son?

Danielle is incredibly close to her son, Noah.  They have a wonderful bond and as a family they have gone through difficult times previously but this is a really tough challenge they are now facing.

She has amazed people with her usual determination and feisty spirit to aid her recovery from this shocking experience. Physically she is mobile but gets very tired, very quickly. Her speech is slower to restore; this is no simple feat.  Also other ways of communicating such as writing/reading, her brain needs to relearn how to do all of this.

Life is now drastically different now to what it was nearly a month ago. Everything has changed dramatically for this little family. Joe is unable to work since it happened and Dani is unable to work for the foreseeable future. There are a lot of unknowns and they are taking life one day at a time, but it is really tough. Practically, finances are a massive concern for them. They have no regular income to support their family during this time of turmoil.  Both of them are self-employed so neither receive any sickness benefits etc.

Noah, a bubbly 5 year old who adores his mummy, has been told the truth all along but it is still a lot to understand. It is an incredibly challenging situation for anyone to have to deal with, especially at such a young age. The patience as she learns how to speak again is beyond his years. As adults it is hard to cope with seeing a loved one 'different' to how they were before, never mind as a child; especially when it is the person who is the centre of your world and main care giver being so drastically in need of care herself.

It's going to be a considerable time before this family can have a new sort of 'normal' again.

Financially, the lack of income, the extra travel costs to hospital, the parking... it all adds up. It all adds to the strain. I would really appreciate it - they would really appreciate it - if you could support them practically by donating whatever you are able to afford.

They have so much to deal with and I would love to lessen the load in terms of financial worries. Together with your help we can all do this and show them how we are all standing by #TeamHoneyands.

I believe that this family can and will get through this. With your help, they can achieve things they never even dreamed of.

Thank you so much.
