Dear Friends, Family and Compassionate Supporters,
As friends of Kenneth “Frog” Scott we are reaching out to all of his friends, family and compassionate supporters to ask for your help with Frog’s Transplant Journey! Many of you know Kenneth (Frog) and his Wife, Emily and their 3 Children Charlie, Jaiden and Sophie, a very loving family that is always helping others. Now it’s our turn to help them. They did not ask for us to do this for them, this is something as friends we want to do for them to show our love and support.
Kenneth Scott was diagnosed with End Stage Kidney Failure September 26, 2019, at that time he was told that both of his kidneys were only functioning at 4% and that he would need to start dialysis right away. Kenneth had to stop working and start dialysis treatments right away. Emily continued to work, take care of Frog and their family. It has been an up and downhill battle for them over the last 4.5 years with Treatments, Appointments and Hospitalizations, ect but you could never look at this family and tell that they were going through something because everything they do, they do it will a smile! Emily has continued to work full-time through everything, be a full time Mom and be there for her Husband Kenneth. Can you imagine the weight, but she does it gracefully with a smile because she deeply loves her Husband and Children.
2 years ago, Kenneth & Emily went to San Antonio Methodist Transplant Hospital to start the process for transplant evaluation, which at that time they were denied because Kenneth’s BMI was too high. The Transplant Center required Kenneth to lose 30 pounds and then reschedule another evaluation, well if you know anything about Dialysis and Kidney Failure , it makes your body weak. So, losing 30 pounds might be small to someone in good health but to them it was a huge challenge but not a challenge that they were not willing to take on. As of July 2023, Kenneth lost not only the 30 pounds but 65 pounds and they decided to look into doing another transplant evaluation. On October 17, 2023, they were scheduled for another Transplant Evaluation but this time at Memorial Hermann Transplant Center in Houston, Texas. One month before the transplant evaluation, Emily’s Aunt Jenny talked to Emily and said that she had been praying about being tested to be a living donor for Kenneth and would be willing to go to the transplant evaluation with them. As soon as Emily told Kenneth(Frog) this news, he immediately teared up and was so thankful for her! Jenny was able to join them on October 17th for Kenneth’s transplant evaluation and she started the living donor testing process with Memorial Hermann. After 3 very long months of testing, it was found that Emilys Aunt Jenny was a perfect match for Kenneth and approved to donate her kidney to Kenneth! The time has now come and a date has been set! Kenneth will be TRANSPLANTED on March 15th and this family could not be more excited and Thankful and an even bigger gift, that he gets Emily’s Aunt’s kidney which is super special for them!!
Here is where we need your help, as we know Kenneth & Emily don’t ever ask for help, because they have always been the ones to step up and help others. Emily works full time and will have been at her job 2 months short of qualifying for FMLA. So, Emily is having to take a leave of absence without pay for 4-6 weeks minimum while caring for her Husband. This transplant cannot happen without Kenneth’s support person(His Wife Emily) being with him at all pre transplant appointments, 4-6 weeks of recovery after transplant and at all of the post-transplant specialist’s appointments per the Transplant Center requirements and if you know Emily you would also know that she has never left his side any time he has been in the hospital over the last 4.5 years and of course wants to be by Her Husband and Her Aunt’s side through all of this.
Kenneth will be in the hospital for a minimum of 1 week and then they are required to stay near Memorial Hermann Transplant Center for 1-2 weeks after transplant due to the several specialists appointments after being released from the hospital as well as making sure everything is going smoothly with the new kidney and the hospital does not recommend them driving the long distance back and forth several times a week. They want them staying as close as possible.
We know a lot of people have been asking what they can do to help, at this point with them being in Houston for 2-3 weeks and then Emily having to take a leave of absence from work without pay, we want to try an help relieve some stress and worry so Emily does not have to worry about anything while caring for Kenneth and his needs as well as making sure the children are taken care of back home and have everything they need. We have set this page up in hopes that it could maybe help them out some. We would like to also invite you to follow the #TEAMFROG FB page Emily has set up for people to follow their Transplant Journey!
Please feel free to reach out to any of us if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Walter Culberson, James & Bonnie Lewis
