Kris was diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma in 2016. He went through a low dose of chemo during that time and his cancer went into remission.
On October 30th 2017 Kris went in for his 6 month check up doctor appointment. We thought it was a ok appointment. Kris had been feeling bad now before this appointment but we both thought maybe it was a flu or something. Kris was complaining that he felt hot inside his body but he never had a fever and he was always tried but we thought it was because of his work and what he did. So his oncologist doctor Dr. Devitt decided to get full labs done and a CT scan done just to be safe.
Later that night as we were eating dinner as a family we get a phone call from the on call doctor at Kaiser Zion and we knew it wasn’t good. They told us Kris needed to come in immediately to the hospital and be admitted. His labs came back and his WBC (white blood cell) were 10x higher then normal levels. And that can mean that his cancer is back and transferred into his blood or bones. Our hearts dropped and panic set in. We rushed the kids to their grandparents and off we went to the hospital.
They ran test and did the CT scan on akris throughout the night. The doctor came in the following day to give us the results and our worst fears came true. Kris’s cancer was back and back with revenge. His cancer has transferred into his blood and they think it’s in his bones. So they wanted to do a bone marrow biopsy to confirm it.
So Kris went to doctors appointment 2 to 3 times a week and had his bone marrow biopsy done. We found out that it was in his bones and that he would have to start chemo right away. Well Kris started chemo at Kaiser Zion. We also had to go back up to Kaiser LA to revisit Kris’s cancer doctor team.
We went back and forth to LA for doctor appointments we found out that Kris was going to need a bone marrow transplant.
Our lives was turned upside down. Our family was already going through so much.
From then Kris had more bone marrow biopsies done, a Picc line put in, more scan, more chemo and had reactions to his chemo. They found a donor all the way in Poland. It was amazing news to hear. So Kris went to The City of Hope in LA around February 2018. On March 1st 2018 the bone marrow transplant was complete. Now we prayed Kris was going to get better. Kris stayed in hospital for 33 days.
Since then Kris has really been trying to staying on top of his health. Taking about 15 medications daily, going to doctors appointments 2 times a week back and forth to San Diego and LA.
We are now 10 months in from the bone marrow transplant and Kris is starting to have issues. Kris has been back in the hospital a few times and found out he has GVHD in his stomach. That means more medications and more visits more often to LA.
So that puts us up to date with Kris’s health.
Throughout these years Kris has been through so much mentally and emotionally. His physical appearance completely changed. Our family has been through a lot too. But we are staying hopeful and strong. We always ask to help us pray for Kris and our family.
