Cody, a 17 year old level 10 competitive gymnast, experienced a neck fracture (C6-7) on Wednesday, July 24th. He had surgery within 6 hours to repair the fracture and relieve the compression on his spinal cord.
When he came to the hospital, he had no sensation below his belly. After a couple of days, he could feel intermittent small sensations down to his knee and sometimes in his feet. He has use of his arms but his hand function and grip is clumsy as the nerves have been compromised.
Now, six months later, Cody is gaining some muscle engagement in his hip flexors, glutes, and quads. He has been completely focused on gaining strength and increasing his independence.
Please consider helping as we now navigate the transition to complete independence by way of adapting a vehicle for his needs.
We have so much gratitude for anything you can do to help.
