Summer 2016 was a good time for Alex. At 15 years old, he enjoyed being poolside. Alex was swimming and swimming…and swimming.
He even found a new passion of teaching children how to swim this summer and was loving it. Alex was teaching kids how to be better in the water. And was working as a lifeguard at the local waterslide park. Unfortunately, Alex had some knee pain. It did not stop him from swimming but it did not go away.
August was the kind of month that turned a family’s world upside down. Never does anyone expect to hear the word ‘cancer’ enter into their world. Within days of a doctor's visit, Alex and his family learned it was not just a hurt knee but instead Osteosarcoma.
Osteosarcoma is tumor of the bones that is prevalent in children and young adults.
Over a big handful of months (into almost mid 2017), Alex and his family will be crushing cancer. It is going to a very long process with many rounds of hospital stays for chemotherapy. These stays in the hospital will more than likely be 4-6 days at a time.
Alex will undergo surgery in November on his leg and it is unknown at this time if he will have a knee replacement or if he will have to amputate.
Alex is an awesome kid who deserves as much support through this time as he can get. It is you and your contribution who can help Alex keep his spirits positive and allow him to wake up everyday determined to kick cancer's ass.
Please help in any way you can so we can raise some money for him and his family. 100% of the donations are going directly to Alex's family.
Both his parents have to continue to work their jobs through this time and will eventually exhaust their sick leave.
