Alan's Fight Against Cancer
Doação protegida
At the beginning of November 2015, a month after returning from our honeymoon, we received shocking news that Alan (38 years old) has advanced stage Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, a rare and inoperable virus-based cancer (1 case in 100,000 annually).
We have had to drop everything and move from our home in Maine to NYC so Alan could be treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for 7 weeks with radiation and chemotherapy. This is one of the best cancer centers in the world, especially to treat this rare case, and he had to start right away.
Unfortunately, Alan, our primary wage-earner, cannot get short-term disability, and the extra costs associated with his cancer diagnosis are adding up. Being able to pay our regular bills and afford the cancer-related costs is becoming financially overwhelming.
So we are swallowing our pride and reaching out. While it is not easy to ask for this kind of support, some people have asked how they can help and we can't think of anything we need more.
Whatever you can do is extremely appreciated, and once we are out of the woods we will do everything we can to "pay it forward" to help others in need, as we believe that is what truly makes the world go 'round.
With our humblest and most sincere gratitude,
Amanda and Alan
P.S. A special shout-out to our supportive family, friends, and community - too many to list, but a few organizations that deserve special mention are our Rotary cub, the YMCA, COA, MSKCC, American Cancer Society Hope Lodge NYC, and all who have been there for us through this scary and stressful time.
