Zeida is a 13 year old CyFair ISD student in Katy, TX. On September 30, Zeida collapsed during volleyball practice at her middle school. She was rushed by ambulance and life flighted to Texas Children's Hospital where it was determined that she had a stroke. Zeida remained hospitalized for 10 weeks. During this time, she had numerous life saving surgeries to address the swelling in the brain, including a hemicraniectomy. This aggressive procedure consisted of removing part of Zeida's skull to allow the brain to swell beyond the limits of the skull and alleviate the excess pressure.
As you can imagine, this was a terrifying time for Zeida and her family. Zeida has recently been discharged but requires 24 hour home care. Zeida will require extensive rehabilitation to help her with her basic life functions (talking, eating, walking). She has made huge strides in her recovery but has a long road ahead.
Zeida's mother, Xochitl, is a single mother who had to quit her job to be by Zeida's side. Xochitl will continue to stay with Zeida as she attends therapy multiple times a week to heal. Thankfully, Zeida will receive assistance with the medical costs of her recovery. However, the family is in immediate need of support. Please consider donating to this cause. All proceeds will be used to help the family catch up on bills, buy basic necessities, travel expenses for the daily trips to the medical center, etc.
