Team Whitby's Junior Provincial Run
Donation protected
Friends and Family
Last weekend in Orangeville a local U18 team from the Whitby Curling Club did the unthinkable and qualified for The U21 Ontario Provincial Curling Championships being held in Russell (just outside of Ottawa) the first week of January. The team is comprised of Ryan and Scott Mitchell, Daniel Van Veghel and Hazen Enman. They are coached by Collin Mitchell.
The winner of the eight team tournament will represent Ontario at the Canadian Curling Championships which are being held in Victoria, B.C. in late January. That trip is all-expenses paid courtesy of the Canadian Curling Association. Unfortunately this year, the Ontario Curling Association has stopped covering the costs associated with a team competing in Provincial playdowns so the boys are reaching out to family and friends to help defer or even cover the costs. They are considerable and as a non-sponsored team--that is, as opposed to the other teams we have no corporate sponsors---we could really use some financial help to ease the burden. It doesn't have to be excessive, each donation will make a difference to the boys.
The boys are going to upload of a video this saturday to introduce themselves so you can put a face to the names. I can tell you they're a very likeable and well-mannered team--always respecting the traditions that are inherent to curling. They're definitely a team you can get behind, that's for sure.
