Trystin Scott Gielissen, 18, of Lakeside, NE was on his way to play in the Nebraska-Wyoming Six-man all-star football game to be held in Albion, NE on Saturday, June 23. Players were to report for practice on Wednesday. He was honored and very excited to meet with the team and be on the field one last time to represent the Hyannis Longhorns, his football brothers and his community.
Trystin was involved in a two car head on collision East of Mullen, NE. The accident happened about 11 am Wednesday, June 20, 2018.
He was life-flighted to CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney. On arrival, he went immediately to emergency surgery to relieve the pressure in his brain from the massive head trauma he received in the accident. He is in the neuro intensive care unit fighting for his life. He will have a very long extensive course of treatment from here forward that involves ICU care, surgery to repair fractures, long distance travels and extensive rehabilitation. We are frequently reminded that his recovery is a MARATHON NOT A SPRINT. We rejoice in the small milestones he makes everyday.
Trystin was a scholar three sport athlete; football, basketball and track. He also showed Boer goats with his Mom, Vicki, and brother, Zane. He was exploring his college options to study Biology; debating between attending schools in Nebraska, Colorado and South Dakota.
We are overwhelmed by your love, prayers, support, and words of encouragement for Trystin and his family. Thank you doesn’t seem like enough to say. But, we humbly THANK YOU!!! We are eternally grateful.
