Team Sky Norris - Commonwealth Games 2022
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
This is Sky Norris here!
If you haven’t heard already then, I am excited to share that I have been selected to compete at the Commonwealth Games 2022, in the Women’s 55kg Weightlifting class representing Team Jamaica.
This will be a historic event as myself and 2 of my teammates Sientje Henderson and Chloe Whylie will be the first-ever female weightlifters to represent Jamaica at a Commonwealth Games.
However, as an individual of a relatively new federation and team within Jamaica, funding for weightlifting is limited, athletes are expected to pay for expenses that are not covered by the federation to compete.
I created this go fund me as requested by many people that would like to support and help cover expenses that I personally have to cover for my competitions.
I would also like to raise awareness for Jamaican weightlifting within Jamaica for the up-and-coming athletes. In addition to, Jamaican athletes like myself that are born outside of Jamacia but are still able to represent the homeland on an international level. Another goal of mine is to qualify and compete at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which also means that this Commonwealth Games is a stepping stone towards that.
A little about me
I got into weightlifting for strength training when I was a keen and passionate BMX racer, riding and competing for Peckham BMX, a well-established BMX racing club in London. However, due to a serious crash and a newfound love of lifting weights (and to my mother's delight), I decided to switch sports. From there, my passion for weightlifting only grew, and with the support and belief I had from my coach, I pursued weightlifting competitively.
I have come a long way from that 17-year-old girl that only liked to do 1 rep sets. Now in my 6th year of Olympic Weightlifting, I can finally start to see the progress of my hard work. I started off competing in local competitions and then moved up to regional and national level.
Last year December, I made my debut in my first ever international competition as well as my debut as part of the Jamaican National Squad, which was the World Weightlifting Championships 2021 in Uzbekistan, Tashkent.
Up until now, by working and with the help of family and friends, I have managed to fund all expenses. However, as I progress, the costs and time I need to dedicate myself to my craft is increasing beyond my means.

In order to focus on the path ahead and to avoid any potential financial stress, I would therefore like to humbly ask if you would be willing to help support my dream of continuing to train and compete at the Commonwealth Games and beyond.
