In August of 2017 Sky had his first retinal detachment. Since that emergency surgery he has had nine more - seven on the right eye and two on the left. Each surgery has required at least three weeks in specific head positioning for recovery, with some lasting months. The back to back to back surgeries are in an effort to save his sight. As a designer and artist you can imagine how heartbreaking this is. He has not been able to surf, cycle, ski, drive and more. Sky has not been able to work for a year, spending his time healing and learning to adapt to his new normal.
There is no other person in the world like Schuyler. He is an incredible husband and father, loved deeply by his wife, Amy, and boys, Shiloh (5) and Oliver (1.5). Sky is a selfless friend, talented designer, dedicated athlete and inspiring human being.
Sky has been fighting like the amazing person he his. His last surgery went from very bad news to unexpected good news, and he is ready to tackle whatever comes next head-on. He is due to have at least one or two more intense, invasive surgeries on his eyes this year. His doctors and providers are amazed at his strength, resiliency and sense of humor. His case is an anomaly. Sky is now starting to work with Occupational Therapy to relearn how to see and adapt to his vision loss. At this time there is not a certainty of what his vision will be and what he will be able to participate in.
Resources are needed to help ease worry about medical bills and expenses that are piling up from these surgeries and recoveries. Amy and Sky have exhausted their savings and emergency funds to stay afloat, even with insurance, and decent insurance at that.
Thank you so much for anything you can offer.
