Recently, my Brother-in-Law whom I've always considered my brother, Jon Skogland was diagnosed with Stage IV Melanoma. After having a routine doctor visit and a biopsy of a mole on his back, our lives forever changed. Melanoma was the last thing any of us expected. Since then he has undergone a surgery to remove the tumor from his back and surrounding lymph nodes. He has been seeking medical treatment in the form of immunotherapy. After his surgery, treatments, and a lot of prayers we were hoping for good news at his follow-up appointment. However, we learned Jon had some internal bleeding which lead to us discovering that the Melanoma continued to spread, and is now located in his intestines. He is continuing these treatments in hopes the Melanoma will shrink and not spread any further. At this time, doctors have determined surgery is not an option in that area as it is effecting multiple areas. However, he will continue on with his immunotherapy in hopes to keep things at bay.
Jon remains the store manager at Goodyear in Rosemount, MN, and is still working full time. However, he may start need to cut back on his hours soon depending on the condition of his health, and with him wanting to spend more quality time with his family while he is physically capable of doing so. We are now in a race against cancer to buy more time with each other. We as a family are trying to take things one day at a time, to make each minute in the day count, try to focus on the good, and making happy memories along this journey.
Jon’s continued treatments will continue to be expensive, but will be worth every penny to prolong our time with him. Danielle continues to work full time at the Federal Prison in Rochester, and has even taken on a second part time job to offset some of the costs. It is our hope that willing people such as yourself will help Jon and Danielle and the large expenses coming their way. One less bill for them to stress about will help so much with their spirits during this tough time.
This family fights Melanoma together. ** TEAM SKOGLAND**
On behalf of Jon, Danielle, Jeremy, and Zachary Skogland, thank you all very, very much!
