Todd's Journey

A little bit about Todd’s journey~

Todd and Pamela met many years ago when they worked at Stryker Medical and she was in college. At the time, their lives were in two different places. Several years later, their paths crossed again at the right time and they rekindled their relationship. They have been married over 9 years now. Todd was still working at Stryker Medical at the time. He worked in Logistics and was one of the employees who helped Stryker grow. Todd has adult kids, and Pam has a daughter. Together, they have a 9 year old son, Bradley who attends Paw Paw Later Elementary. After Bradley was born, life needed to slow down and they decided after working at Stryker for over 38 years that Todd should take a bit of a break and enjoy family. He retired in the spring of 2015.

They both love Mexico and the Playa Del Carmen area so they decided that they would love to spend their winters in a warmer climate (no snow) and summers in Michigan. They searched and found an investment property in Playa Del Carmen. Their plan to make the move away from snow was starting to happen.

In November, 2017, they took a trip to Playa to do some school hunting and found the perfect school for Bradley. The school even played American Football. Their plan to slow life down was beginning and they discussed moving in the Fall of 2018.

However, after Thanksgiving, Todd was diagnosed with Liver Cirohssis. To complicate the liver disease, they found out that he has evidence of two genetic deficiencies Alpha-1 Antitrypsin and is a carrier for hemochromatosis. These coupled with beer likely contributed to his liver disease. It came on quickly without any warning.

Since November, Todd has been in and out of the hospital at least 8 times. This disease is awful. He has lost over 60 lbs. Each week he has to get tapped to remove the fluid that accumulates in his abdomen. The family has been told that he needs a liver transplant. Todd is currently in the Liver Clinic at UOM undergoing testing to be admitted to the transplant wait list. The family is also searching for possible living liver donors.

Todd would be the last person to ask for help with mounting medical bills. His work ethic of 38 years at Stryker, and countless lifelong friends are testimony to that. There are very few folks that deserve a helping hand more when the chips are down. Please help Todd and Pam's family and give Todd a second chance at life.
