Bat Galim is a community in Haifa, it’s claim to fame is being a unique blend of city living with the close-knit spirit of a kibbutz or small town. Anyone who has spent time here has felt the intense community focus, but it’s never been more palpable than now.
Bar Galim is a community owned bar which serves as an anchor for the community. We opened this past Saturday as a place for people to be near others, to get out of their house, and to know they are not alone. Sunday, the bar made the decision to open with voluntary staff and to turn all the food we had into sandwiches to donate to different military units around the country. We started as a group of three and have quickly grown to groups of dozens of volunteers coming throughout the day.
We have a drop-off schedule where military units can count on us to bring hundreds of sandwiches throughout the day. Additionally, we are collecting requested dry goods and distributing them to the locations that need them.
This is strictly a volunteer effort with all donations going straight from our hands to military units looking for a filling sandwich and supplies. We are thankful to the bar forgiving us a place to run this operation! Any donations we receive will go through the three of us (Team Sandwich) organizing everything and will be for the sandwiches and requested supplies.
