Cancer Plays dirty but so do we
After too many prosecco's over lunch with friends Carol & Jane, we decided we needed a new fundraising event - a few young people we knew had done this event before and enjoyed it, so we said let's go for it but not on our own as we needed a help to get us over the obstacles and probably be carried over the line
We started recruiting our helpers, and now there are 31 of us taking part - Family/Friends and Sammy Jo's Friends (thank you all) - we are all ages, shapes and fitness levels.
Kim Brandon, Carol Oates, Jane Lacy, Tracy Ware, Amanda Joynes, Robyn Joynes, Jodi Ware, Charlotte Jenkins, Fiona Cannon, Claire De Villiers, Carol McNamara, Sam Lowe, Katie Lowe, Joanne Street, Melanie Tattingham, Dawn Nicoll, Lindsey Geaney, Debbie Wells, Nicola Carne, Hayley Clark, Lysette Card, Conor McNamara, Charlotte McNamara, Laura Brown, Kristy Stores, Michaela Stores, Louise Innes , Chloe Healy, Carol Bishop and Shavani Harrison
As Cancer Research has organised this event, we thought it only fair that we will split all the money raised on this page between Cancer Research and Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation
Sammy Jo lost her battle at 29 years old to Triple Negative Breast Cancer (8.8.88 - 14.5.18) - Sammy Jo always wanted children of her own, and she would get upset knowing children were going through the same horrific effects of her treatment. In February 2018, we got the devastating news that cancer had returned in her brain and lungs and only had weeks to live; over the following weeks, there was a lot of hard conversations with her, one of them being raising money at her funeral, she said the money raised must go to Children With Cancer
We raised £6,485 - a few days after her funeral, Sammy Jo's cousin Robyn suggested we start a foundation in her name that we all thought was a great idea, so it was all set up a few months later.
Through lots of hard work and support from our family and friends and Sammy Jo's friends and families, Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation to date has raised over £200,000 for Children with Cancer UK through Dinner & Dances, Football Matches, Golf Days, London Marathon and lots of other events Family/Friends and Sammy Jo's friends and families have done on our behalf
We know if we have only saved one child's life from cancer, we are fulfilling Sammy Jo's wishes, we are guessing with your help and our fundraising, we can save a lot more in the future.
