Since Ron's 1st visit to Loma Linda ER, June 2nd 2020, we have experienced multiple reminders that what we are facing is not only not temporary but is also a not to be taken lightly & not to let our guard down
On June 24th, 7 days after having been rushed into surgery to have his right kidney, lymph nodes, additional tissues and an unexpected need for a Vascular Surgeon to step in to scrape and reconstruct his Inferior Vena Cava (our lower artery that leads straight to the heart ), we met, face to face, with his Surgical Urologist. We were given the diagnosis...."Stage 4 Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma with extensive Sarcomatoid and Rhabdoid features."
At that moment, I knew I had some serious research ahead of me and we were already knee deep in a battle that completely blindsided us both.
We walked out of that office, hand in hand, searching for strength in each other, Faith in God & preparing how to share this news with our children, family's & friend's. We both heard the Dr. remind us how precious the life that we are given is and how VITAL living your life, as best you can, as you are able, is, especially with a diagnosis & prognosis that Ron was just given
Over the next couple of months we made multiple trips to ER and met with countless Specialists. Ron has had many blood transfusions and received an IR Procedure that saved his life, in that moment, due to the reoccurrence of this nasty, aggressive, advanced tumor, having infiltrated his intestine, duodenum and stomach.
He has since had 4 Immunotherapy Treatments consisting of a Combo of meds that has been proven to be the absolute best line of defense for his particular Cancer
We will have results from an updated CT, soon, to shed some light as to if there have been any changes (shrinkage) to any of his tumors throughout his chest, abdomen and pelvic areas.
There is a full team of Surgeons, Oncology/Urology/Gastrointestinal, that already have a plan to perform any surgery that is needed, as needed. The hope is that the tumor closest to his stomach has retreated enough so that the Dr.'s can safely attempt to remove as much as possible without having to reconstruct multiple organs, in a very risky procedure.
This fight for his life has taught us all more than we wish we knew, on one hand, and provided the reminders of what's most important and where we should all be putting our energy in our daily lives, with or without the fear of death, knocking on our door....into our families, love, laughter, togetherness, travel, creating memories and making sure that the impression/legacy we are leaving behind is a damn good one
We not only have a significantly suppressed immune system at home (in the midst of a pandemic!), multiple Dr visits and insurance challenges, but we also have 1st & 3rd grade school to tend to, daily!
Losing my job at the beginning of this Covid crisis was more of a blessing in disguise than I ever could have foreseen, but the significantly negative financial impact gets the best of me some days
Our Unemployment System has failed so many people that we know and love and Ron is not excluded from that downfall His SDI (disability) claim was denied even after the appeal process. He has not been able to work since we were requested at the hospital, immediately, by a Dr. reviewing his tests results, on June 17th. We have applied for SSD (Social Security Disability) but have yet to see any action on that claim.
Our #1 concern, financially, is losing the roof over our head and providing the basic utility needs for our family. We do not own our home so we are at the mercy of our landlords Grace and generosity, allowing us to stay in their house, which we have made our home, as long as they see fit, for them.
I have extended all of our financial means at this point
We have been blessed, beyond our imaginations, with love, prayers and support in any and all ways and can never thank you all enough for putting our families, mainly Ron, at the forefront of your hearts and minds
We have learned that there is absolutely no minimal amount of love and support that doesn't make a seriously significant difference in the overall big picture, as well as God showing us, time & time again, that he has a plan and we need not fear, Isaiah 41:10
I will personally be providing necessary updates, here, as well as responding to anyone that reaches out♡ I do my best to keep on top of communication & provide vital, specific information to help with targeted prayer support
Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU, for your love, light, encouragement
