Family and friends, on June 24, 2022, Peter was diagnosed with a progressive motor neuron disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease by local (Guam) neurologist Dr. Ramel A. Carlos.

This disease has already affected his upper motor neurons and is expected to affect his lower motor neurons with time. This disease causes rapid loss of muscle control and eventual paralysis. Most people with ALS meet their untimely passing due to respiratory failure within three (3) to five (5) years from the onset of symptoms. However, about 10% of people with ALS survive for 10 or more years—we can only hope and pray this will be the case for my husband.

Due to the severity of this disease, we are opting for a second opinion in the mainland to confirm Dr. Carlos’ initial diagnosis. Your support will enable us to manage the costs of medical, travel, lodging, and transportation expenses.
