The Pederson Family's Journey through Metastatic Uveal Melanoma

“It’s a never-ending story, a story that has a million words, a million turns and not nearly enough time to explain the experience it truly is.”

Below are the details of their cancer journey. Please thoughtfully consider how you can make a financial impact by joining their journey today!

In January 2015 Seth’s first diagnosis of eye cancer came. There was treatment and then stabilization for the next 3 1/2 years. A second cancer diagnosis came on June 15th, 2018.  The cancer had metastasized to Seth’s liver and scans revealed that Seth’s liver now had 8-10 tumors. On December 20th, 2019, they found out that the cancer had spread again; now innumerable tumors were in Seth’s liver, a large tumor in his abdominal lining and rib bone with something developing in the lower spine.

This cancer journey has consisted of a host of treatments. To start, Seth tried a combination immunotherapy drug Yervoy/Opdivo from June-August 2018, had disease progression along with severe side effects that prevented them from continuing with this treatment. They moved from this onto a clinical trial called IMCgp100 from December 2018-September 2019 when it was determined to be ineffective once again due to disease progression. Seth had Y90 liver-directed radiation in October and November of 2019. There was more research, prayer, advocating, prayer, research, advice, prayer, phone calls, emails and waiting. Finally, Seth and family were set to start a new clinical trial in Nashville on January 2nd, 2020 but mere days before starting this new clinical trial (a treatment Seth referred to as the “McMuffin” pill, please see Seth’s Facebook post on 12/22/2019), Seth’s bilirubin count had suddenly become too high and the “McMuffin” pill was put on hold. As of January 14th, 2020, Seth went on full-time short-term disability, and is not currently working.

On January 22nd, 2020, Seth and Amy met with their oncologist in Seattle. They found out that Seth’s cancer has become quite aggressive over the course of this last month. Several of the tumors in the liver have grown, there is a new tumor in the abdomen, the large tumor in the abdomen has gotten even bigger, several lymph nodes are now involved, and there are several tumors in his spine and the tumor in his rib bone. Seth is having surgery to place stents in his bile ducts on January 24th in hopes that his bilirubin will go down low enough to start the trial in Nashville (see Amy's January 24th  facebook post for a more detailed medical update)

The community of people (family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, writing community, church members, community leaders, etc…) who are seeing this and reading this need to know a few things.  Cancer is expensive (can we agree that we think cancer sucks?!) and because of this, our beautiful Pederson Family will need continued help on this journey.

With a 40% reduction in income they will be met with even more financial burden and stress so here's how you can join in...

These funds will go towards medical bills and medical related needs-it’s a new year which means new deductibles. There is coinsurance and copays for appointments & grief counseling, prescriptions, over the counter drugs needed, parking fees for appointments, gas for travel,  food before/during or after all the travel to or from appointments and any and all unexpected expenses related to the hurculean effort to fight this metastatic uveal melanoma cancer. I think we can all agree the costs associated with this are unfathomable.

NOTE: To all the financial donors that have come alongside the Pederson Family already, Amy and Seth want you to know that although you might be seeing this gofundme page, they do not want you to feel obligated to make a gofundme contribution. They are immensely grateful for the monetary gifts they have received from you.

Please go to Amy's website at www.amybethpederson.com/2015/01/26/the-apple-of-my-eye/ to read more about their journey through Metastatic Uveal Melanoma.  You may also read up on Seth’s medical updates on Amy and Seth Pederson’s Facebook pages. These medical updates give a detailed account of what’s been taking place medically with Seth.

On behalf of the Pederson family and with their deepest gratitude we share this gofundme page in hopes that we can rally around this family and provide financially for immediate needs during this time.

We love you Seth, Amy, Cooper, Elsa and Maisie!
