One of the delights of weekday morning workouts, has been watching Parker emerge from the cozy nest of his baby carriage to “helping” Coach Becky give the workout instructions from his snugli to taking his first wobbly steps to running laps on deck. Miraculously, Becky always knows exactly where he is yet everyone in the pool is drawn to keeping a watchful eye over this lively, smiling little boy. He must feel he has a hundred uncles and aunties because we all let him know we love him every time we see him.

We cheered the birth of his sister, Payton, after taking bets on whether Becky was planning to give birth in the pool because she coached up until the last minute. Our community shed collective tears and comforted each other with hugs when we learned that Parker was diagnosed with leukemia at what should have been a moment of total joy for Becky and Corey.

Because we are a community who cares for others and takes actions to show it, our teammates rushed to step up to offer help however they can. Because many of us have the experience of what it means to travel the cancer journey of a loved one, we know that this is more a marathon than a sprint. We know that this roller coaster of anxiety, treatments, and lost sleep will also bring with it extra and unexpected expenses. Many of you asked if you could contribute to a financial cushion to help with bills, pay for extra help at home, order take out, or generally support whatever the family discovers they need in the months and year ahead.
