On August 5, while Nika was on a Harley Davidson bike rally, he along with four other riders were pulled over by New Hampshire police. No one was issued a ticket but one of the police officers noticed that Nika's tourist visa had expired by two months. This particular officer also works part-time for ICE. Consequently, ICE was called and they took Nika away to the Stratford County Jail (Dover, New Hampshire) that same day.
Nika came to the US legally with a 10 year tourist visa. But unfortunately given the currently political climate a minor infraction such as overstaying one's LEGAL tourist visa by two months has caused an unnecessary traumatic situation for both Nika and his family who are desperately trying to meet bail ($14K) and come forth with a legal retainer fee (to be determined).
Those of us who have met and spent time with Nika want to help him out in whatever way we can. Even a dollar counts. No denomination is too small. Every donation matters.
If you can't help out with a donation, please share this with your local congress person, non-profit organizations, or anyone involved with immigrant rights!
The money we raise will be given to his family 100% towards bail, retrieving his motorcycle from the pound, and several different legal fees coming up fast for his visa case. We are aiming high but whatever we can raise will help them out tremendously!
As of tonight, Monday, August 6, Nika is still held at the Stratford County Jail. His aunt will be arriving tomorrow (Tuesday, August 7) to hopefully bail him out.
