Team Mylie

When Mylie was born with an atrial septal defect 13 years ago, we all knew there would be challenges ahead of her in the years to come. Our fundraiser 13 years ago provided the Bush family with the support they needed to go forth with baby Mylies open heart surgery to repair the defect and help with all the necessary follow-up care, travel and monitoring over the last decade. The surgeons at Boston Medical Center have been extraordinary and by the side of the Bush family throughout this journey. Over the years, Mylie has broken all barriers and overcome all obstacles by Leaps and Bounds...literally. As a competitive cheer athlete, gymnast and basketball player, most people never knew of her heart history. In fact, Mylie never new the whole history... because she didn't have to. She outlasted all expectations of any revision surgery or procedures... until now.
Some of you may know that she had to travel back to Boston 3 months ago for her first heart surgery in over a decade. Prepared for a complex open heart surgical repair, the surgeons were able to do the repair through a minimally-invasive approach through an artery in her leg. That artery is now starting to occlude and block blood flow into her leg. She is now heading back to Boston for further surgery. We all know Mylie will have an excellent outcome, but along the way there is significant financial burden. We know insurance will cover some of the expenses but majority of the cost will occur with travel, deductibles and co-pays along with lost wages.
