Morgan's road to recovery-Guillain-Barré Syndrome

Morgan Chambless is a loving, caring nurse that does whatever she can to help others. She's a wonderful wife and also loving mother to a 3year old son. Roughly three weeks ago Morgan started to notice numbness in her fingertips and it progressed to her hands. At first we thought it was carpal tunnel. It then progressed to her feet. Both hands and feet began to feel numb. Walking became tough. 

She began needing minimal assistance for a few days then she needed assistance with everything. Simple tasks became a challenge. Morgan went to the neurologist and after a MRI scan she was diagnosed with transverse myelitis (inflammation around the spinal cord). Since the beginning of the diagnosis she wasn't able to return to work. After a three day round of Solu-medrol steroid infusion, the inflammation stayed. 

A day after she started to experience severe pain in the spine and stomach. We then made a trip to the ER for any sort of relief. After a follow with the neurologist the following day she was admitted to flowers hospital on January 9th. After being admitted Morgan's mobility began to slightly decline. It's very hard for her to stand on her own, grab onto things, etc. 

The inflammation causes types of paralysis. She's strictly bed bound unless it's absolutely necessary for her to get up. We're still trying to find answers during this time. Her recovery is going to take some time. We have a good team behind us helping take care of her medically and physically. 

We're working with physical therapy to help regain strength and whenever we're discharged from the hospital she will undergo weeks of physical rehab to help get her life back on track.
