Many of you already know that Monei Williams was diagnosed with a brain tumor over two years ago. She underwent surgery in March of 2018, which was unsuccessful. Recently, Monei began experiencing some unusual symptoms, which caused her medical team to conduct a series of tests and scans. The results identified Cushing’s Disease. On December 8, 2020, Monei's medical team informed us that Monei is in a late stage of the disease and now faces two battles, the brain tumor and the disease.
The disease is aggressively attacking her body and causing many stressors on her body, such as hypertensive crisis (stroke level blood pressure), unexplained weight gain, decreased kidney function, all of which are now placing a strain on her heart, which could lead to heart failure. Collectively, the medical team of John Hopkins University determined surgery is the only option to save Monei's life.
Monei is scheduled to have surgery on Monday, February 1st. Her recovery period will be at least four (4) months due to the severity of the disease, the location of the tumor at the base of her brain, and the number of radiation treatments following surgery. She will be in the ICU unit for a minimum of three to four (3-4) weeks. The medical team has informed Monei that her recovery will be painful, lengthy, and intense.
People have asked as to how they can help. So, we’ve started this GoFundMe campaign to build a fund to help support Monei. The funds will be used to help offset expenses such as the loss of income, medical equipment rental, medical transportation, prescriptions, rent, and other unexpected expenses. Due to the number of medical appointments, Monei has already exhausted her sick and personal leave.
Monei is a proud HBCU graduate of Morgan State University (2017). She was pursuing a Master's Degree in Psychology. However, Monei's plans for furthering her education are now on hold.
