Team Miracle for Sydney

Dear Family & Friends, it is with a heavy heart that I share what is happening in our lives at this moment ...

Sydney was a passenger in a small car that was involved in a major multi-vehicle accident at the beginning of July 2020.  The car she was in was t-boned at a high rate of speed. The point of impact was exactly where she was sitting, in the back passenger seat.  The car she was in was crushed and she was pinned inside.  Sydney was unresponsive at the scene, unrecognizable, and was Life-Flighted to the Medical Center in Houston.  Sydney has received multiple serious injuries throughout her whole body.  She has already undergone two surgeries, the first one being a cranial surgery upon arrival at in hospital.  The impact was so intense, her body was crushed.  There is another surgery on the schedule to repair the many fractures her face has suffered.  There are currently TEAMS of doctors and nurses that are treating Sydney around the clock.  I have been told we have a long road ahead due to the severity of her many injuries.

Sydney is currently still in ICU.  After two weeks she is finally off of the ventilator and is now able to say her name and about 4 other words. PLEASE KEEP PRAYING!! She does recognize Me (Momma).  Sydney is very confused and in a great deal of pain.  The medical team anticipates another 4 to 6 weeks in the hospital and years of rehab. This GoFundMe has been started to help with medical bills and treatments that are already behind us and still ahead, as well as ongoing care that will be needed during her rehabilitation (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy). So far she has been in ICU for 17 days with another surgery on schedule.  I am believing that God can bless her with a miracle.  Sydney has so much that she wants to do for the world and I want her to accomplish it all.

A little bit about my sweet Sydney:

Sydney loves animals and critters of land, water and air.  She has rescued two kittens that are now happy and very much loved indoor spoiled cats - Sam & Lotus.  She also has two fluffy dogs - Champ & Carmelina, that she rescued and loves so much.  It is not surprising to see all 4 pets in Sydney's room at night sleeping on her bed or on the floor next to her bed, as if they are keeping watch over their human.  Sydney showed her compassion to a cicada that had a damaged wing and a snail that was dropped from the beak of a bird.  Shelly the Cicada recouped from his/her trauma and is in a customized aquarium that would make every snail jealous.  Sydney has raised and released butterflies.  She even stepped in to protect a frog from a boy at recess that was getting ready to stomp on it to squish and kill it.  Witnesses said that Sydney spoke to the boy and the kids around him about not doing what he was going to do, that the frog was a living creature of God's and does feel pain.  The boy laughed at her and was about to stomp on it when Sydney dove to grab the frog and saved it.   Sydney's dream in life is to become the world's best Marine Biologist.  She did not wait for college to learn about marine biology, she began researching the field and has spent so much of her down time watching many educational videos and documentaries.  We went to the Houston Aquarium a couple of months ago and she was the best tour guide anyone could hope for and enjoyed talking with the staff there about the sea creatures.  I have learned quite a bit about marine life from Sydney.

Sydney is an artist that has no clue just how talented she is.  She loves to paint, sketch, work with clay, and even alters her clothing to add her own flare to them.  Sydney has even tried her hand at creating a graphic novel, which she hasn't had a chance to complete yet, but from what I saw it looks amazing.

Sydney had a very hard time in school for many years due to being bullied by other students for various reasons.  She is shy but tries hard to overcome it.   Sydney tends to stand up for others that are being bullied and will support and encourage them.  She's told me that she tries to get the bullies to stop but they start to verbally attack her.  Teachers have commented that Sydney is a big thinker and has many times surprised them with her level of awareness and thoughts of the world and subjects at hand.  Sydney said months ago that she wanted to become a speaker to students to help stop bullying.

We thank you with all of our hearts for your prayers of healing and comfort for Sydney at this time.

All our love,
Debra & Sydney
